Web3 Warriors Brings Turn-Based Combat Onchain

A turn-based PvP game puts custom characters and tactical decisions on Vara.

Your opponent has one move left. You know they’re setting a trap. You choose the flashy attack anyway and regret it immediately. That’s the pleasure of turn-based combat: enough time to think, and still plenty of room to make a terrible decision. Web3 Warriors Battle brings that contest to Vara.

The project page describes custom characters, attacks, dodges and special abilities, with stats that affect the odds of each move. It labels the game live. We have not played a full match, so the feel of the controls and the balance between fighters remain open questions. But one of its rules already makes a good case for Vara.

Nobody wants to wait forever for a turn

The project says players reserve gas for moves in advance, and Vara’s delayed messages can trigger an automatic action when someone misses a turn. If your opponent vanishes, the match can still move. That’s a use of onchain mechanics you can explain to anybody who has ever stared at an abandoned game lobby.

A turn is also a natural unit of play for shared rules. A player chooses, the game resolves, and both sides can see the state before the next decision. The chain belongs in the experience if it makes that sequence dependable without making each move feel like paperwork.

There are more questions we’d like to answer with a real match. The project page says a fighter may be a player-uploaded program or a temporary appearance for a battle. How easy is it to get into that first fight? Can you tell why a move won? Does the losing player want a rematch? Those are game questions, and they matter more than a label saying “onchain.”

The project listing has the current play link. The timeout rule gets us interested. A memorable fight—especially one you almost won—would bring us back.
